We’re about to embark on an (almost) nine-week road trip from Florida, across Canada, back through the northern states of the US and home. With more than 20 stops over 50 plus days this is by far the most sophisticated itinerary we’ve attempted.
Over the past few months we’ve road tested our new Honda Pilot to be sure it was the right fit for our family. This will be where the rubber really hits the road.
The journey begins with a sprint from Florida to Montreal. We limit our daily drives to eight hours so we’ve planned stops in Charlotte, NC; Harrisburg, PA; and Rochester, NY. Rochester marks our first detour to visit my best friend from high school. It’s just a few hours from Montreal where our real adventure begins.
The next leg of the trip will take us through all the southern provinces of Canada including Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. Overall we’ll be there 24 days with Montreal, Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Regina and Vancouver. The cities and sites change daily and are regularly updated on our map and on the site. We’ll be posting information about activities, historic landmarks, sights and sounds, asking for reader input via Twitter and Facebook. We’ll also be sharing photos on Instagram and Pinterest.
We’ll be mixing our site coverage with articles about each destination while also including personal anecdotes and advice about traveling with the family.
Once we’re back in the states we’ll be visiting Washington (and maybe the San Juan Islands), Oregon, Montana and Wyoming. Chris asked that we spend some time chasing down a good cup of joe in Seattle, Portland and Bend. Our last two stops in cowboy country will be staying on guest ranches. Yahoo!
We’re still not sure exactly where or when this trip will end. One thing we do know is on the way home we plan to visit the capital city of Lincoln, NE and my cousin Tim’s restaurant in Des Moines, IA. After that we’ll try to see my aunt in Urbana, IL and another cousin in Indianapolis, ID.
That’s where the planning gets hazy. We originally wanted to visit Louisville, KY followed by the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, AL. However, we were also invited to visit our producer while he’s shooting a show in Pennsylvania.
We have plenty of time to figure out what to do. And I’m sure there will be many changes along the way, what’s one more?
What could possibly go wrong?
