What if you could be the first skier on a freshly-groomed hill? Well, with four inches of fresh powder and more on the way in Beaver Creek, today would be the day for that.
I had the privilege of doing “first tracks” yesterday, and it was pretty impressive. You’re all alone on the mountain, and as I’ve confessed many times in the past, Beaver Creek is one of my favorite places to ski, so no arm-twisting there.
The resort offers a “Golden Ticket” program for VIP guests, which includes an early-morning run and a detour to Beano’s Cabin for hot chocolate and pastries. I’m told that when you’re skiing, these pastries are completely fat-free. Hmm.
What is definitely true is that after a couple of runs on a virgin slope, you will probably become what’s known as a corduroy junkie. You don’t have to worry about your skis sliding around on the packed powder; every carve is perfect.
I love it.
I’m looking at the new snow collecting outside my room at St. James Place, and I really wish I had a “first run” ticket today. But we’re checking out and moving on to Breckenridge for our family travel blog. More soon.
By the way, don’t forget to “like” our Facebook page. We’ll be giving away more cool travel prizes soon to random likers.
