@ Saugatuck, Mich.

We’re @: Saugatuck, Mich.

What’s here: Ox-Bow school of the arts, a haven for the creative process through instruction, example, and community for more than 100 years.

We’re staying @: A three-bedroom rental cottage from Mill Pond Realty.

Claim to fame: Known as “The Art Coast of Michigan.”

Memorable moment: Walking the dunes along Oval Beach at the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area.

Overheard: “I’m not sure if you would call that art…”

Surprise: Home of the Saugatuck Chain Ferry, the only remaining chain driven ferry in the US. It has been in use since 1838 and it is hand cranked! The operator turns a crank on the inside and this pulls the ferry along the chain.

Who should go: If you love art, scenic coastal villages, intelligent conversation and exceptional food this is a good place to visit.

Info: On Twitter @Saugatuck and on Facebook.
